So Hitler dies in 1938, just after the Munich crisis, assassination at a rally. Without Hitler and a designated successor (which Hitler only made in September 1939, Goring), vicious infighting erupts in the Nazi party over who takes control. Hitler's personality is the only thing that kept the different factions in the party together, and the Reich is not particularly stable. As a result, the Heer takes over and after a brief toying with military government, eventually realizes that new elections are necessary to restore true stability.

A new constitution is drafted which restores a British-style constitutional monarchy, civil and political liberties, and federal autonomies, gives strengthened powers to the executive, changes the electoral system to diminish political fragmentation and bans nazist and communist parties. The German people goes along with the regime change since they respect the Heer and no one is impressed with the Nazis after the public fighting for control of the party, they have lost the public's respect. The elections return a political system dominated by the SPD, the CDU, the FDP, and the DNP (national conservatives). The CDU, FDP, and DNP form a coalition.

Since the new German government does not betray the Munich Agreement, it keeps the favor of the British establishment, which is even more pleased with the democratic restoration, so the new Germany is able to leverage British favor into strongarming the Polish government to return Danzig and a land connection in southern West Prussia between Pomerania and East Prussia to Germany, with an extraterritorial corridor to the Polish enclave in northern West Prussia for Poland. War between Germany, Poland, and the Western powers vanishes in the mists of alternative history.

However, Stalin somehow makes one aggression too many into Eastern Europe, and a British-French-German coalition forms to fight him. How and why this may happen ? What Japan and America do ? How Europe and the world look like in 2009 ?
