Hitler denied Chancellorship in 1933

What if Schleichers request to get Hindenberg to declare a State of Emergency on January 23rd succeeds and Schleicher is able to form his Labor Government by including Von Papen into the Cabinet, supporting Eastern Aid and letting the military play a large role in affairs?

By "Labor" I expect you mean Social Democrat, which was the main centre-left party in Germany at that time. Schleicher and Von Papen were conservatives; they would never work with the Social Democrats and vice versa.

I doubt if the military were keen to play any role in government at the time. Germany was in turmoil, remember, with exceptionally high unemployment and the nazis and communists fighting a virtual civil war on the streets.

The infallible wiki says Schleicher reached out to the labor unions of the SDP, the Centre Party and to Strassers faction of the Nazi Party

OK, Adalf, I accept what you say.

However, Strasser's faction consisted mainly of Strasser himself, his brother and a few friends, so they'd hardly have been significant players.

You think a coalition of the Social Democrats, the Centre, the Bavarian People's Party, and the Reichswehr would be enough to prevail against Hitler? And what would the communists do in this situtation

The Nazi's are dead as a political force. The Nazis were running out of money before Hitler got appointed Chancellor if they had not got brought into government I believe they would have ran out of funds.

There'd be a bloody civil war in Germany and the Soviets might intervene.

How? They didn't have a border with Germany at that time, and if they invaded the Baltic States or Poland, and THEN meddled in the German Civil War, France and Britain would've been all over that.

Maybe not directly but they might give the side they're supporting military aid like in the Spanish Civil War.

It would be interesting to work through a scenario where the Centre Party did the right thing - and if Hitler was denied, then perhaps the party might have become rather more of an assertive political force than being neutered by arrangement between the Vatican/Hitler

What sort of arrangement are you immagining?

Let me have a think about this - It has been several years since I've read any material that looks closely at the Centre Party

Where there good odds for Hindenburg to allow a Social Democrat government at this time, he disliked socialism and only worked with the Social Democrats if he had to. Any chance of getting the Social Democrats to support a Centrist Government (Social Democrats have a key role, since the two other big parties NSDAP and KPD are unreasonable), or even a government of right- wing officials to counter the nazi threat??

The number of Nazi votes peaked in 1932 and was starting to fall in 1933. If Hitler could not get into power in that year, it's likely that the Nazis could not have got into power at all.
