History questionS on the middle age period (1200)
Hi everybody!
I need help please with a question regarding the political reality at 1200 in the western Europe and especially HRE.
So, the question is :
It is possible that after a crushing victory over the Holy Roman Emperor, a rival kingdom to detach a duchy from the HRE and to attach it to it?
We can take for example, the battle of Bouvines, that could goes even nastier for the imperials and Otto is captured as well as the most important dukes and nobles. So, Philippe of France request (from Otto itself or from Frederick II) that a specific duchy to be transferred to Kingdom of France. We can take Loraine or Brabant or Alsace or whatever. This request could be backed by military occupation of that duchy and the fact that the duke itself is captured by the French.
I do not refer myself to the fact that the duke will pay homage to the king but still being part of the empire and subject to emperor, but to the fact that that duke will be the subject of the new king de jure and de facto.
Another version could be that the duke in cause is disposed and the king will become duke (the duchy will still be part of the HRE). How feasible is this scenario? If there is no historical claim, can this happened?
Thanks a lot!
