Even before the emancipation proclamation slaves were fleeing to Union lines. Why would slaves be willing to serve as Confederate soldiers, when they are far more likely to receive freedom by fleeing north?

Also, OTL the Ides of arming blacks was only considered towards the end of the war as a last ditch effort. Even then the idea was very unpopular. Why would the south arm slaves so early in the war?

1. Originally Lincoln ordered runaway slaves returned. Then he held them in labor camps.

2. The book explains in more detail but they armed some of the slaves partly to win international recognition

The Confederacy considered arming slaves IRL. They decided against it heavily for an obvious reason. Arm the slave, the slave takes his freedom. Despite what morons and racists believe, the lash is not the natural state of man.

Also, IIRC you can't advertise here?

This probably belongs in the "Books and Media" section.

As an aside, you may want to check the formatting you've used for the Kindle version, it's unreadable in its current state, the spacing is too chaotic.
