I've been on this site for a year, but I still don't know a lot about certain parts of history. There are a few things I'm very knowledgeable in, but lots of parts are still murky for me. However, a couple months ago I found this page on the wiki. Groucho used to write very detailed historical recaps, but he stopped after the 5th Century. I thought that it might be a good idea to bring them back, but as a collaborative project this time. Everyone willing to participate could write about their own knowledgeable part of history.

Why would it be good to have? Well, it would give people a direct source for timelines, one they know is reliable. It would probably be an aggregate of multiple sources, and hopefully unbiased.

How would it work? People choose a time period and a region, then divide the period into a bunch of smaller events. Like Grouchio did, it would probably end up being a bunch of smaller posts, but adding up to a lot of words. I mean, it'll be the people's choice of what they really want to include.

What time periods would be picked? Well, I'd personally choose Europe from the 7th to 9th centuries. I'd probably make a bunch of posts on the spread of Islam, the rise of the Vikings, Charlemagne, the like.

There'd obviously be no actual responsibility to continue everything, this is just an idea I have. I think it would work really well as a source, and it wouldn't be too hard if you're just pasting stuff. You wouldn't be forced to write thousands of words, but if you're passionate about it it'd be a good place to write everything down. Would anyone be willing to at least claim a time period, and then maybe write a few updates about what happened?
