This is kind of a general statement but I'm looking for some characters that may have, for one reason or another, be inserted into an Alt History American Rev War:
I'm not limiting this in any way. Just some interesting persons of military, political and social prominence whom might have involved themselves in the American Revolutionary War. either by immigration to America or some other means. The odder the better. Any nationality or gender is fine.
For instance, many of my TL's have Robert Clive as either a British or American General. My biggest ALT Novel to date has him being disgraced after his battles in Bengal. His rapacity in pillaging Bengal led to an overthrow of Britain's Bengali allies and the new government turning on Clive as a scapegoat.
Other ideas have included the North American victorious British "7 Years War Officer Gang" of Jeffrey Amherst, William Moncton, James Murrary, James Wolfe, and Robert Townsend, most of whom were dead or just refused to go back having hated their time in North America so much.
I've also though of Casanova (was exiled from Venice much around this time) and young 7 Years War Veteran Marquis de Sade whom I've been knocking around an idea where he is exiled from France around 1767 to San Dominigue or one of the other French West Indian islands as punishment for his "activities". In OTL, he was banished many times in time period (or fled).
Who else may make their way to America and participate on one side or another?
Who was looking for work as a mercenary?
Comte de St. Germaine?
Nikolaus, Count Luckner?
An exiled Peter III of Russia?
Be creative.
Thanks.
