Hillary Clinton creates her own political party

What if Senator Clinton disgruntled believing she's somehow been cheated creates her own political party?

Well, the problem is that this would clearly be against the Interests of the Democratic Party, which would be split--if Hillary isn't somehow thwarted. Count on the Democrats to push as many buttons and pull as many switches as they can to see this attempt die on the runway.

If the Democrats can not minimize the attempt right off the bat and leave Hillary as essentially a sore loser standing alone, McCain would pick a different VP than Sarah Palin and would almost certainly win the 2008 election.

I wonder if it isn't any more similar than certain British politicians being kicked out of or leaving their own parties and settig up their own (George galloway and Robert Kilroy-Silk in this case- though in both cases, I think they were kicked out over controversies, so it isn't that similar.) Few will vote for them, or if they get a seat, they'll never be a big majority. Small parties rarely are, in either system.

It’s not really her style to put revenge or personal feelings for that matter ahead of her career. If it were otherwise I’d say it’s more than likely she wouldn’t still be married to someone who has a very public reputation for fooling around. So I have to agree that the POD isn’t too plausible.

Political suicide, since the American election system make no place for more than 2 parties.

True, but in this case things might be different. You obviously would need a massive POD to make Hillary want to do this, but if she did we can assume that a large number of her supports are equally disillusioned and enraged. So we could see a large number of Congressmen, Senators, Governors, state legislators, and so forth switch from Democrats to the new party, thus circumventing the regulatory obstacles that the two parties put in the path of third parties.

That being said, I can't think of anything at all that would cause Hillary to do something like this.

I agree the Democrats would be after her in a second so what if she managed to get a republican onboard to split both parties. Say Clinton/Romney or Clinton/Paul. If nothing else: *intresting* (in the reality show way)

I remember some polls during the end of the democratic race ran on this premise. They all looked like a McCain victory where the democrat parties get alot more votes when added up, but still lose by a wide margin to McCain. Think 40/31/27. Ironically, these polls had Hillary doing better than Obama's Democratic Party with her startup.

Of course, if I was a republican getting called by a pollster with a question like this late May, you can be sure they'd be hearing me scream "Go Hillary!" on the other side of the street. (Just in case a good poll encourages her to actually do this) That's the kind of scenario where the polls' margin of error goes way up.
