Hillary Clinton 2004

Hillary Clinton had problems in 2008 and 2016 and lost both times, but nobody talks about what if she runs in 2004. I am imagining, given the problems of the emails and Benghazi in the Obama administration would not have happened yet, she'd have a better chance. Also, she is younger, and her husband's administration's shadow is quite close. Given her opponent is W, not Trump, she is facing a generic social conservative. W, unlike Trump was pro-immigration, funded anti-HIV programs in Haiti and had passed Medicare Part D.
Note: Post realistic wins or losses: and current politics is not allowed as this thread is set in 2004.

No one would give her the time of day, being only 3 years deep in her first term in Senate. Obama pulled it off only because he was the best orator of his generation in politics and Hillary was so disliked among people wanting change. She doesn't get off the ground, but maybe learns to commit more in Iowa for 2008.

This is likely, and 2008 provided W wins might be better for her and she wins in Obama's place for 2009. What if she was picked as VP(even though nobody needs New York State) by someone else?

She'll have to go back on her promise to serve her full term in the senate, so unless that's butterflied she's going to get roasted over that one. Add in the possible Clinton fatigue, remember here we're only 4 years removed from Bill, and I don't think she survives the primaries. Not to mention that I think it would do more damage to her future chances.

As for VP, I don't think the nominee would want the baggage, and I don't think she'd be on board to be #2.

I really want to see a thread about a Hilary Clinton presidential candidacy in 2000! That was her year.

Probably what happens in 2004 is that she plays the role of Jeb Bush to Howard Dean's Donald Trump.

Howard Dean prob wouldn't have won the party establishment wasn't nearly as toxic in 2004 as it was in 2016

No way. She wouldn't dare cross the establishment. Gore was the "next in line" and nobody from the democratic side was going to run against him.

Don't scream about Bill Bradley either, he was a fringe candidate at best.

After three consecutive elections dominated by Bill Clinton (two with the man himself, the third with his VP), is there really appetite for a fourth? I don't know either way, but my gut says "no" and that 2008 was really the earliest possibility for President Hillary Clinton.

That's countered by Dean not being remotely as toxic as Trump. Hell, he was more experienced than Hillary in 2004.

Though it is important to remember there were moves/attempts to persuade Hillary to run in 2004, plus Bill was still a very popular President amongst Democrats. In response to the 'Clinton fatigue' arguments.

I think she does worst then Kerry. She supported the Iraq War in 2003 and was against gay marriage in 2004. Kerry made it so close because he became the beacon of light for liberals and turnout was crazy high because it was a true liberal vs conservative election

I don't see liberals being inspired by Hillary to turnout the way they did for Kerry in 2004. Especially with her third way husband. Bush won because he won independents, who saw Bush as being closer to normal then Kerry's liberal views. So they certainly is a way for Hillary to win, but I don't see her beating Bush.

That's from OTL 2004 Kerry campaign. I'm not including how bad of a campaigner Hillary is or how little of a personality she has. That hurt her in 2008 and 2012. And she'll be only in her first senate term with no Secretary of State record, and awfully close to her husband term so nepotism will be bought up (W. waited 8 years after his father, Jeb did the same)
