High On The Mountain Top: A Deseret TL.

On a sort of related point...

Is it just me, or is the Salt Lake valley the single really habitable (by non-native americans) area within the bounds of Mexico (as of independence) that is *least* controllable from Mexico city? For all of the issues of controlling the Yucatan, it least it was *lot* closer. Was the Lake Tahoe area equally inaccessible?

Tahoe's much easier to get to, by going up the west coast and then in from what would be Sacramento etc. Not easy, but easier than Salt Lake.

Looking forward to see how the Republic of Texas shakes out (since Clay will sign a treaty pledging military protection, and probably any number of other things, but he'd go so far as to veto something that threatened to annex it). Also Oregon; Clay won't be interested in "settling" its ownership, so perhaps we see more LDS there under the mistaken assumption that it will be British, or enjoy some British protection?

Did Clay promise a single term? Sometimes he made pronouncements like that, sometimes he didn't.

Actually I'm rather interested to see how this developes, simply because of the chance of seeing a President Clay in action. It sounds to me that Clay is going to be much less interested in American expansion, and much more concerned with implimenting his "American Plan" at long last. i suspect we'll see a new Bank of the US, as well as a stronger focus on internal improvements.
Other side effects of this TL is that America gets a Whig president who is going to actually focus on implimenting a whig platform. If he's successful, I suspect that Whig party is going to be much more stable in the ATL. Also, without a Mexican-American War, Henry Clay Jr., is going to live. Not sure if he'll get invovled in politics but, at the very least, we end up with a much less emotionally shattered Henry clay Sr.

Argh, why do people post in the timeline that I haven't specifically posted in for a month? That's basically my way of saying "got bored or frustrated, stopping this timeline now."

Which is to say, I'm not going to post anything more on this, and I'll remove it from my signature, sorry.
