Hereward the Wake established an East Anglian Nation

WI Hereward the Wake and Morcar had won at the Battle of Ely and had gained further support from the Danes and many more Northern noblemen. Just suppose a Northern English nation had been re - established with close ties to the Danes and the Scandinavian world. How would the history of Britain be altered both in the short term and potentially in the long term?

How are the Anglo-Saxons supposed to hold off the Normans forever? Ely is years after Hastings. Not that I wouldn't love to see another surviving Anglo-Saxon kingdom in England.

It is only four years after the battle of Hastings and resistance was still strong in many areas but more importantly resistance was incredibly strong in relation to the concept of a national identity - that is being, "English". The battle of Ely wasn't the only uprising during this period and I think with a bit of luck and some greater Danish backing it may have gone differently?
