Herb London as First Jewish PotUS

I'm always looking for alternate candidates in the 1980s and 1990s.

If Cuomo runs in '88, he'd either win and be PotUS or Lise and be weaker in 1990.

In the 1990 NY gov's race the GOP and the Conservative Party endorsed two different candidates (they often cross nominate). So the Republican vote gets split. The tally was Cuomo 53, Rinfret 21, London 20.

London ran well, without Rinfret and with a weaker Democrat, he couldve won.

Then PotUS...

Interesting. I suppose it'll depend on who the Democrats would end up running in a Cuomo void.

However, the Presidency may be a long shot. The Conservative party wouldn't win a national election, and the GOP may be pissed off at him for defeating their party candidate and not being a team player. The following (which I got from wikipedia) would also piss off the GOP.

Had London polled higher than Rinfret, the Republican Party would have ceased being a major party in New York State and would have lost that status to the Conservatives. In New York, major party status is granted to the two parties who poll highest in the race for governor. One perk of major party status is the ability to have one elections commissioner in each county.

If I may, perhaps you misunderstand the party system in NY.

The NY Conservative party and the Republican Party often cross endorse. So for example, Paladino is on the GOP line and on the Conservative Party line.

He lost in 1990. In 1994, Herb London was the GOP candidate for State Comptroller. Nationally he'd run as a Republican.

The "major parties," ones that get election officials in each county, are the two parties that finish with the highest percentage in the governor's race.

In 1990 it was the closest we ever got to one of the major parties being downgraded.
