Hephthalite Question

Just how strong and stable was Hephthalite power in Asia in relation to Sassanid Persia around 500 and late 4th century.

I ask cause I'm wondering how plausible it would be for the Sassanids to break the White Huns around that time.

The Hephthalites were a relatively powerful nation if you mean it militarily. They were in control of a powerful state and used to conduct raids in to the Indian subcontinent and the Iranian plateau regularly.

The Sassanids by this point were really dwindling and I don't think they had it in them to take on the Hephthalites. I mean Emperor Kavadh I actually had to use Hephthalite aid to rebel and place himself on the throne.

Any way to strengthen that position? I mean, what were the main causes of Persian weakness at the time?
