Henry VIII, King of England and Holy Roman Emperor

After the death of the Holy Roman Emperor Maximilian I, the race between his Grandson Charles V and Francis I of France to get the votes of the electors of the Holy Roman Emperor began. What is less known is that King Henry VIII of England also threw his lot into the race and tried to gain the title of Holy Roman Emperor. He and Francis lost and Charles was unanimously elected, but what if he hadn't? What if the electors had chosen Henry to be King of the Romans? What if Henry became the Holy Roman Emperor?

Is this concept TL worthy? I've been thinking about it ever since I read about it last year and was wondering.

There's a discussion of the idea earlier, and while its TL-worthy in terms of "is this interesting", the odds of Henry becoming emperor are...not very good.

Short form: Charles can offer bigger bribes.

Yep, The Habsburgs have the Fuggers to ensure their financial supremacy, whilst Henry... he's not the penny-pincher his father was, right?

The only reason I could see them going for Henry VIII was if the Electors wanted an even less powerful than normal Emperor and thought the Habsburgs were becoming a little too powerful. Of course that's why Charles V used both threats and Fugger backed bribery to obtain the Crown.

I wonder what happens if Henry VIII was elected and needing a divorce the Pope refuses him one? That could make things interesting is he was the Holy Roman Emperor and not just King of England.
