Henry VI of England and his "Madness"

It is well known that Henry VI of England suffered from mental illness, widely believed to be inherited from his French grandfather, Charles VI. But was this really the case? His mother Queen Catherine had several children by Owen Tudor after the death of his father Henry V. Were any of the Tudor children similarly affected? I don't know much about them, but I do recall that Jasper Tudor lived on into the reign of Henry VII, an apparently healthy man. Could Henry VI had been sick for another reason or perhaps it was just a coincidence?

Jasper seems to have been healthy, his brother Edmund (Richmond) didn't live long enough to show one way or another, and I'm not sure on any others.

But it's not impossible.

Perhaps the madness came from his fathers line? Where there any crazy members of the House of Plantagenet besides Henry VI?

Richard II arguably.

I don't see why it can't be inherited from his mother just because his half-brothers didn't go mad. F'instance (to pick a harmless thing), my sister has the same eye color as our father, but I have the same as our mother.

True. But it is rather odd that the the madness only showed itself in Henry VI and not in any of Catherine de Valois' other descendents, well Henry VIII was a different type of crazy, but no other English monarch seems to have the same symptoms. I'm not sure about the French monarchs, however, so maybe it showed up again in that line. But you would think it would show up again in England, like Hemophilia with Queen Victoria's bloodline.

Genetics are rather odd. Edward son of Henry didn't live all that long, so it's an open question on if he might have suffered from it if he had.

How many of Victoria's descendents actually suffered from it?

A lot actually. Like Google Queen Victoria Hemophilia family tree and U'll see.

Indeed.
While haemophilia has more traditional mendelian inheritance, "Madness" does not since there are likely a whole host of troublesome genetic, epigenetic, and environmental factors as the cause.

Actually, the madness was inherited from Charles VI of France, Henry VI and Henry VIII were both descended from Charles VI...actually most of the Royals in Europe are now descended from Charles VI due to the marriages of the daughters of Charles I and Queen Victoria to the other royalty.

Had Marie Louise of Orleans had a child with Charles II of Spain the bloodline of Charles VI of France would had penetrated the Habsburgs earlier.
