Inspired by discussion about stability of England during regencies in my thread about Princes in the Tower early death.
Say Henry VI's mentall breakdown lead him to jump out of window or eat broken glass during early April, 1454. Richard of York is Protector of the Realm from few days, Somerset is in the Tower, King's only son, Edward of Westminster is infant. What is going to happen now? Would we get Richard III 30 years earlier or another long regency?

Unless Richard finds a reason that Henry's marriage was illegitimate then Richard will be Lord Protector for as long as possible.
And I can't see that marriage being disavowed.
Margaret of Anjou will oppose York as she did OTL. One or the other will win eventually.

Richard Duke of York was effectively in charge of the country when Henry VI went into catatonic episodes, therefore in the event of his death Margaret can't do much to oppose him as Lord Protector. It would be interesting to see an Edward of Westminister essentially being raised by people loyal to the Duke of York. Because At this stage Richard did not have an aspirations towards claiming the throne himself.

Edward of Westminster was born during York's protectorate, and iirc York had him proclaimed Prince of Wales, Duke of Cornwall, Earl of Chester etc w/o raising any questions about his legitimacy.

So it seems little Eddie would survive regency. If he has not inherited his father's and great-grandfather's problems with mental health Lancastrians should keep the throne. Even if H6 was not Edward's real father no one could prove it.
