He likely never becomes notable at all since popular interest in his story primarily stemmed from local newspaper accounts of his murders and escapes that were carried by papers in the East. This in turn guaranteed he would either be hanged or killed since his notoriety was an embarrassment to the authorities.

If he stays mostly on the right side of the law he might later in life do what Wyatt Earp did and write a self-promoting biography that makes him famous and the Lincoln County War a popular subject for Western movies.
