Henry Ford does not invent 40 hour work week

This may be ASB, but how would American labor have developed if Ford had not performed his experiment recommending a 40 hour work week? ASB because I'm figuring someone would have tried it at some point.

He didn't invent it. Unions had been fighting for it and the eight hour workday for some time. Someone else would give in eventually.

This post would be better suited to pre-1900.

IIRC the original May Day protests in 1886 were a campaign for an 8-hour workday and 40-hour work week.

I rather like spanning topics. Yes, it might have required a couple of pre-1900 PODs, but we might have seen the bulk of the effects afterwards.

Doesn't change that concensus, and CalBear says that if pod is pre-1900 then it it should be placed there even if it was in 1899 and the effects was post-

Henry went with the 8 hour workday as that let him run three full shifts with no downtime, vs two 10 hour shifts.

That it made good PR was secondary

Happy workers was after that.

Henry wanted efficiency and high output. 8 hour day did that
