Henry Bolingbroke dies in exile

If Henry Bolingbroke dies before or on return to England and thus never imprisons and succeeds Richard II what can we expect?
I'll assume Richard still dies childless.

Edmund Mortimer although he would only have been 8? It would almost certainly have been Roger Mortimer if he hadn't been killed in Ireland.
EDIT Edmund's age probably wouldn't have been an issue if Richard had managed to stay on the throne for another 10 years or so.

What would Henry's sons have done as they came of age?
Who would be Regent for Edmund assuming not still of age when Richard dies?

That probably depends on how settled England is when they come of age. If Edmund is Ricard IIv2 then Henry or Thomas would try for the throne especially if they got French support. They might still anyway either Charles VI or Charles V!! would want to get the English out of France and this would be one way of doing it fermenting a civil war.

Edward 2nd Duke of York springs to mind but he might try for the throne himself being a grandson of Edward III.

Hmm, I guess it would depend if Henry Bolingbroke is seen as going for the crown or just the Duchy of Lancaster as he first claimed.
I could see young Henry being granted Lancaster and Thomas Hereford if they pledge loyalty to Edmund.

Possible, would he be of mind to attempt the throne? It's not quite the same situation as Richard III

Edward given his OTL history probably not. His younger brother Richard of Conisburgh was involved in the OTL Southampton Plot but that was to put Edmund Mortimer on the throne instead of Henry V, since here Edmund would be King I think it likely that the Yorks would support him. Of course that does not rule out later Yorks trying for the throne in an ITTL version of the Wars of the Roses if Edmund's successor is like OTL Henry VI.
