I'm wondering if anybody knows of this story, at least 30 years old, and probably more.
All I can remember is that Lincoln has survived the assassination; he is now an old man but his Presidency is long behind him, and his second term didn't go too well. The story is written by a young aide, and the mood is melancholic, and somewhat bitter. The only other thing I remember is the semi-joking nickname his assistants have for him is "the Shogun."
I read it before I knew about AH or much about Lincoln- I don't think they even mention his name.
No idea of title or author. Ring any bells?
