Birth of an heir

On 1188, Joan of England would again conceive a child for her husband, Guiglielmo II of Sicily, she had a dead son on 1182 and at this point the future Holy Roman Empress, Constance is the heir to the Kingdom of Sicily and the birth of a son would be celebrated on May 10, 1189, however her husband Guiglielmo II would die on 1190, requiring her to be the regent for the new King of Sicily for a time, she would remarry to William, a son of a claimant to the Kingdom of Sicily to secure the succession of Sicily, since she is currently raising the King of Sicily who is currently under her regency not allowing others to interrupt the regency although the Germans are trying to kill the child so that Sicily would be theirs, the other threat would be from Tancred which was neutralized by marrying Tancred’s son herself, she would also secure the future and succession of Sicily.

Henry II died on 6 July 1189, aged 56; the King had wished to be interred at Grandmont Abbey in the Limousin, but the hot weather made transporting his body impractical and he was instead buried at the nearby Fontevraud Abbey.

In the immediate aftermath of Henry's death, Richard successfully claimed his father's lands; he later left on the Third Crusade, but never married Alys as he had agreed with Philip Augustus. Eleanor was released from house arrest and regained control of Aquitaine, where she ruled on Richard's behalf.

Richard I after his coronation, his first act would be to pick a queen and he chose his new wife Berengaria of Navarre in 1189 effectively repudiating his betrothal with Alys of France who was sent back to Paris, which would make Philippe Auguste angry, Berengaria of Navarre would prove herself be fertile and worthy as a queen by providing two sons of Henry named Henry(June 1190) and William(December 1191), before he would go to the Holy Land to defend the Kingdom of Jerusalem against the Saracens who are threatening the Holy land, leaving his wife, Berengaria and his mother, Eleanor as regents, Eleanor would pick her grandson William as her heir to the Duchy of Aquitaine.

During his arrival to the Holy Land he would offer his other niece, Eleanor of Brittany to Emperor Frederick Barbarossa for Conrad of Swabia to marry instead of the possible heiress Berengaria of Castile a match that Eleanor of Aquitaine was against, the emperor would counteroffer to marry Eleanor to his son Philip, a final agreement was reached and it was a marriage between Philip of Swabia and Eleanor of Brittany and dropping the engagement of Berengaria of Castile with Conrad, this was an agreement between two powerful monarchs of two Christian countries.

When Richard returned to England on 1194 he sent Eleanor of Brittany with Baldwin of Bethune and an English retinue to send Eleanor of Brittany to the Emperor to marry her groom and the two parties met in Aachen the late 1194, the bride was just 10 years old at that time and groom was fourteen, she was sent in order to be able to learn german and marry her groom, Eleanor and Philip are married in Aachen and after the betrothal of Eleanor to Philip, Conrad would have received a message by his father in order to marry somebody else and not Berengaria, On 1193, Henry of Swabia, the eldest son of Barbarossa would immediately arrange his marriage to a Danish match, Conrad would marry Ingeborg of Denmark which would nullify his betrothal with Berengaria of Castile.
