Heavier Australian casualties from VW to Baghdad

The Australian Defence Force's recent deployment to Iraq, comprising a contingent from the Darwin-based 5/7RAR and 2 Cav, has seen thus far several attacks on Aussie military personnel by the insurgents during Oct-Dec 2004 resulting in 3 injured Australian soldiers, but thus far no fatalities. This low casualty figure IMO reflects the same relatively few casualties sustained by Australian forces in other commitments from the VW onwards (some 500 Australian servicemen died while serving in Vietnam during 1965-72, compared to approx 50,000 American war dead), up to the present day, and is at least partially reflective of the ADF's high degree of training and dynamic approach to operations. But WI Australian troops in Iraq and goin further back to VN had actually ended up suffering far heavier casualties than OTL, say on the scale of the losses suffered by US forces ? What would be/would've been the reaction on public opinion back home and Australia's willingness to continue undertaking such risky military deployments ?

You overhaul your military doctrine, bring in new commanders and probably stress investment in high tech weapons to minumize potential casualties.

Either that or Australia becomes more and more anti-american as time goes on in response to flag-draped coffins coming back from (largely) american ventures.

Actually, probably both at once.
