"The Zimmermans were very involved with the Jewish community. They attended the Synagogue on 4th Avenue West when a rabbi was in residence. Bob studied Hebrew and had the traditional Jewish Bar Mitzvah ceremony when he was about 13." https://web.archive.org/web/20050211191420/http://www.zimmys.com/
What if young Robert decides he wants to be a cantor instead of going into rock and roll?
Now of course some of you may say that young Robert lacked the "pleasant voice" traditionally required of a hazzan https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hazzan#Qualifications But isn't that rather subjective? After all, there are people who find his voice, in at least some of his recordings, more expressive than a more "musical" voce would be. And there have been cantors (well, at least one) who "loved, loved Bob Dylan." https://forward.com/scribe/407527/remembering-my-cantor-ilan-mamber/
And anyway, maybe in Hibbing there just aren't many alternative candidates for the job...
