Given any POD before 1900 make the native nation of Hawaii a major power today. Either a superpower, Great power, or Regional Power will do but they must remain solidly independent throughout, though crucial alliances and friendships are permitted.

Feel free to butterfly away as much of history as you like.

Independence is easy, just have the British takeover. Hawaii would be granted Commonwealth status once the empire ends.

Superpower Hawaii would be difficult with the limited population and geographic isolation.

The Hawiia Rift collapses sending a slab of Rock 25 miles long and ten miles wide Down into the Ocean.
The Run on travels up to 75 miles at speeds reaching 200 MPH.

Ten Hours later the resulting wave reaches the coasts. As it climbs the Shelfs it reaches heights of over 2000 feet.
With a wave lenght of of 50~ 75 miles It take 15~20 minutes for the back edge to finally reach the Coast.
From Mexico North to Alaska and then south to Indonesia, almost nothing is left from the coast to hundreds of miles inland.
The Wave washed over the isle of Japan and into the sea of Japan, Destroying Japan, Korea and Russian Amur Province.
It raced up the flat Banks of the Yellow River all the way to the Three Gorges.
When it receded nothing was left below 2000 feet, No people animals, Buildings, Boats or even Trees.
The wave reaches as far or farther inland along the American Coast.


By the time the return wave reaches Hawaii, it is a minor Tsunami no more than 50 feet high.
Hawaii is the only remains of Civilization left in the north Pacific, and over the next several decades uses this to become a regional power.

Obviously, Hawaii must first annex Micronesia, reverse-engineer it's rocket-camel technology, and then commence Operation Coconut, in which it will slowly turn all the earth's fauna into palm trees and all the people into sunbaked americans, japanese farmers, and hot hula-girls.

Obviously, real history is ASB, because this should've happened.

There was a suggestion back in the 1870s or so that Hawaii should be the leader of a Pacific confederation of island nations. After much thought over several years I think its important that the Hawaiians link up with the Maori since that will net them both a large population base as well as some raw materials that will be available to them within their borders.

An alliance with Tonga, Fiji, Nahru, Samoa and Tahiti (and those islands inbetween) would make things easier. Tahiti may be a codominion from which the French are finally ejected from for their Vichy tendencies during the Great Pacific War of 1941-1945.
