Harold Wilson exposed as a KGB spy in 63/64

There have been rumours about Harold Wilson being a KGB spy, what if this had been proved in 1963 or 1964?

It would destroy the Labour Party, and turn the UK essentially into a one-party state for the next twenty years, but seeing as the rumours were false it is all academic. They were caused due to the fact he visited the Soviet Union in his youth(alongside his secretary whilst he was PM whose name escapes me)

If it were true and MI5 proved it, what would stop them from turning Wilson into a double agent? Would this not mean British troops in Vietnam and a more vigourous Imperial policy?

Spooks

Poor old Wilson, all those rumours spread by some quite batty MI5 types, yet Dennis Healy, amongst others, had once been in the Communist Party!
In the 1930's plenty were, as young men, frightened by the rise of Fascism, before the extent of Stalin's terror became widely known, the CP was the only force really against this.
Labour at the time had a pacifist leader, the Tories in government, was largely for appeasment.

But Healy and others who would become Labour ministers, did not stay in the CP for that long, if anything, just prior to WW2, the Hitler/Stalin pact saw to that, they would mostly go on to be as commited to Western defence in the Cold War, as others.

Hmmmm give the state of the red army in 1939 im sure most people would recognse the German/Soveit pact as an attempt to buy time.

Heh, this topic reminds me of a Ted Alleury book: cold tactics. In which the SU attempts to get a KGB puppet elected as president of the USA.

It would have to be a put upjob. Wilson did a few trade deals with the USSR and as far as I know got the better of them. However the effect of a smear might have toppled him as Labour leader or given the Tories another term of office resulting in them having to dealwith a Sterling. Maybe Jim Callgham or Roy Jenkins win in 1969
