Habsburg Kingdom of Serbia

I've long held that after Austro-Russian–Turkish War of 1735–39 that the Habsburgs should have come to a permanent peace with the Ottoman Empire and established a modus vivendi to keep the Russians out of the Balkans since the Danube and Sava rivers formed a good border and further fighting is rather pointless. Going back a bit further though what if they had instead decided to call it a day after the Austro-Turkish War of 1716–18 where they gained the Banat, south-eastern Syrmia, central Serbia, a tiny strip of northern Bosnia and Lesser Wallachia in Treaty of Passarowitz and not joined in the Austro-Russian–Turkish War of 1735–39 or Austro-Turkish War of 1787–91?

Aside from some effects on Austro-Russian diplomatic relations the main difference will be that the Habsburg Kingdom of Serbia that in our timeline existed from 1718 to 1739 will instead now carry on. A quick look at the Genocide - I know, I know - states that it wasn't administered as either part Austria or Hungary but as a separate entity within the Habsburg Monarchy, although it eventually got put in with Transleithania after the Compromise of 1867. Do people think that if its had a somewhat longer existence as its own kingdom that it might be able to keep its independence later on? I'm currently trying to scheme how to get a Habsburg Serbia made up of Serbia less the Banat/modern day Vojvodina, Kosovo, Macedonia and Bosnia and Herzegovina with the minimum number of butterflies.

It would keep its "independence" from Hungary/Transleithania; Charles VI found it very convenient to keep it separate, his successors would probably see it that way as well. And the Serbs accidentally gave them a convenient excuse by electing Leopold I as King of Serbia back in 1690.

Of course, having a separate administration is not the same as actual independence. Serbia would still be a Habsburg crownland and more or less integrated into the Austrian Empire if/when it's created.

I suspect the only road to independence which still keeps a Habsburg on the Serbian throne would be a later partition of their realms - one brother gets the German states, another brother gets Hungary, a third Habsburg brother or cousin gets Serbia etc. This type of split is possible, but it requires some unusual circumstances.

Charles VI have a surviving son, no Alliance with Russia, no disastrous war with the Ottomans, Serbia and Upper Wallachia are kept for the moment.
