Greek rebellion against the Ottomans

There were several Greek rebellions against the Ottoman Empire. Unfortunately I do not know the details around it, but is it pausible to see a scenario were the Greeks became independent at a much earlier stage, maybe in the early 1700, for instance as a British protectorate and possibly even with Istanbul as capital? And what would have been the consequences for the later development?

Britain had really limited interests in the Med until they acquired Minorca and even then the Eastern Med was an irrelevance until Malta and Napoleon's invasion of Egypt.

Absolutely no chance of a Greek rebellion capturing Istanbul.

I just don't see Britain getting involved.

The only "power" with a vested interest in seeing a free Greece prior to 1798 was Russia. and they were not going to allow anyone else control of the straits if they had the chance to take Istanbul

The 1605 rebellion had Byzantine undertones and sought to restore the empire in some form. This obviously failed at the time of the Ottomans peak, but at another time with the support of Russia along with the rest of the Orthodox Balkans and maybe even naval support from the Spanish (obviously in exchange for something), a rebellion by someone with distant Paleologos credentials and an impassioned Greek following with foreign support along with internal Ottoman strife (not at all hard to find) from the Janissaies playing Praetorian or hated reforms being pushed through may be just enough to see the Greeks win.
