Greek choice for king

Couldn’t they choose a local hero of the revolution to be king,just like Serbia?I understand they wanted support from a foreign country,but it always strikes me as odd that you just threw out a foreign king,and now you want another foreigner to rule over you.

They really wanted extra territory that the British held and thought that getting Alfred as king would result in Britain giving them said land. In the end Britain gave them the land, but the Greeks didn't get Alfred as king.

I figured a foreign king was advantageous because they could start as something of a blank slate and unifying figure, and weren't tainted by domestic politics/factionalism/rivalry (which have the potential to make a domestic choice controversial)?
