Greater Eygpt

1980, Iraq invades Iran same as OTL, most of Arab world backs Iraq. Egypt is ignored but strengthen ties with Europe by selling more oil.

After the 1989 coup in Sudan, President Mubarak sends Egyptian forces into Sudan. After over throwing the new government a referendum is held. Over 90% of the Egyptian population and 70% of the Sudanese population vote for unification. Former South Sudan is granted autonomy in the new country. Egyptians celebrate almost total control of the Nile River.

When I saw 'Greater Egypt', I instantly thought of Egypt annexing Sudan, considering the Nile and the ancient connection to Nubia/Kush

but I guess it would make more sense in modern times to go westward for the oil and coastline

Just for kicks, the former scenario could happen either in the 1950s when Sudan became independent from Anglo-Egyptian rule: Nasser is emboldened by his success at Suez, wants to build an even better dam further south...or in more recent years via military intervention, considering how chronically unstable Sudan has been

Egypt and Sudan are one as of 1989. Add Libyan oil and autonomy for South Sudan and it's possible for the country to become really successful.

Why a constitutional monarchy when the monarchy hadn't existed for over 20 years and IIRC had no real support? It isn't like the Hashemites where all the monarchy of Iraq and Jordan were related.

I suppose if you're a hardcore Pharaonist you might want a monarchy so you could have a Pharaoh, but anything like that would never be in the majority of Pharaonists at that point. And as I said, taking over and annexing Libya clearly means you have some pan-Arab goals.

I see a monarchy as being a great unifier. And 20 years it not that long in reality.

So within 20 years, you could have an Egypt that controls Libya and Northern Sudan, has warm relations with Israel, and is positioned as another version of Turkey within the Arab world.

Egypt after the Gulf War puts into production the Tuthmosis tank, a modernized M47 Patton. The email engine, main gun and fire control the same as the M60 3 used by Egyptian forces. Egypt which was not a user of the M47 had been buying the obsolete tank from mideastern and Mediterranean countries. Egypt now saw itself in a position to reclaim the lead of not only the Arab World but rivalry with Pakistan and Turkey as the leading Muslim nation.

Feeling that the Egyptian efforts in the Gulf War was not being recognized, the Egyptian government decides to intervene, for peaceful reasons, in the affairs of their neighbors. Egyptian armed forces enter Ethiopia and then Somalia with the stated goal of ending the civil wars and bringing peace to the reason.
