Today's last (probably) update.

Kanem - based along Lake Chad

Yorubaland - confederacy (large, to n. of Benin and Igbo)

Benin (w) and Igbo (e)

Hausa states (green outline) - Muslim (I'm assuming Islam makes it this far ITTL)

Dogon Empire - big blob in west. West Africa's premier great power. Probably going to be revised a bit. These borders are just ugly.

Red areas I really don't know what to do with. Suggestions welcome.

Is it a good assumption that nearly the entire world's technology level is futuristic? How advanced of AI do we have, and is this world post-scarcity?

I am trying to think of ideas for my nations out of Russia / Siberia. Does anyone have any ideas of what their culture will be like? I presume the Siberian nations are much like the Iroquis Confederacy as they are seperate nations but are united in a Confederation of sorts, same for the Slavic nations. These 2 Confederacies forming a large union between all of them. Other than that, I don't really have any ideas.

Africa is done. Colors can be changed if deemed necessary. I've added short writeups much like the ones give in the legends of the maps on the first page.

The Bantu League (the Ubuntu) - Halfway between the Holy Roman Empire and the United States. A vast, multiethnic state with over 500 distinct languages spoken within its borders, the Bantu League was forged in the fires of the Great African War to ensure that peace reigns on the world's second largest continent. The League is also (sometimes idealistically) known as the Ubuntu, in reference to the cooperative, humanistic philosophy that guided its founding. Several large states within the League dominate the much more numerous smaller ones. As each state only gets a single seat in the Council at Sofala, requiring the delegates of smaller states to be courted in order to pass legislation.

Luba Empire - The largest state in the League. Known for its strong, ruthless military and currently engaged in a battle for influence with the Fang. As a result of its often cold foreign policy, most of the Empire's allies are only coerced into friendship.

Great Zimbabwe - The strongest mercantile state in the Bantu League and perhaps the Indian Ocean. Stock exchanges and corporate boards in the city of Zimbabwe govern the lifestyles of people far outside the borders of the state.

Maravi Confederacy - The industrial powerhouse of the League. The African industrial revolution can be traced to the forges of the Confederacy, and, through strict protection of trade secrets, has stayed on top. As a result of this secrecy, most Maravi are quiet and withdrawn, but willing to help the rest of humanity with their superior mechanics.

Ndongo - An inoffensive, yet strong state south of the Zaire River. The Ndongo monarchy is best known for its generosity and extensive welfare system that stretch back for centuries. Its people have always ranked among the happiest in the world.

Mpemba Kasi - Formerly a much stronger power, Mpemba Kasi experienced the bulk of Luba aggression during the Great African War, a sore point that was never healed, even with the creation of the Ubuntu. Though forced by the structure of the League to stay at peace, there are many within Mpemba Kasi that itch for a chance to strike back at the Luba.

Fang Kingdom - Central Africa's premier maritime and mercantile state, Fang ships sailed as far afield as Britain and North America in the days before steam power. Nowadays, through residual wealth and control over a space elevator, the Fang are as rich as ever. Currently engaged in a fight for influence against the Luba Empire.

Buganda-Kitara - United centuries ago, much of African civilization came from the Great Lakes. Buganda remains peaceful and prosperous but is not nearly as relevant on the world stage as it once was.

Rwanda - Like Buganda, only poorer and with a much bigger inferiority complex.

Pemba - Though only several hundred square miles, Pemba dominates the surrounding statelets through its strong military and economic prowess. The city of Pemba itself is a bustling metropolis with skyscrapers miles tall and several dozen world class universities within its arcologies. Its unrivaled casinos, brothels, and adventure sports make it a destination for tourists throughout the Solar System.

Kingozi Union - A loose alliance of mercantile, Kingozi-speaking states and a federation within a federation. The Kingozi peoples long dominated trade in central East Africa, and their establishment of a trade and customs union is meant to achieve ethnic dominance in the economic sphere.

The rest of Africa

Third Eternal and Holy Empire of Ethopia and its Possessions - The ruling Solomonic Dynasty claims descent from the Queen of Sheba and Solomon, King of Israel. Ethiopia has lasted in varying forms for many centuries and its religion is a mixture of Messianic Judaism and Coptic Christianity. A 4000th birthday parade was held for Ethiopia in the capital of Aksum where Dawit VIII led the procession on a genetically engineered lion. Through its puppet regimes down the East African coast, Ethiopia exerts a strong influence on the world economic system.

Great and Bountiful Dogon Second Empire - The unique astronomical beliefs of the Dogon culture proved an inspiring force to propel them into dominance of West Africa and then, into space. With a strong military, robust space program, and numerous research centers, the Dogon are a power to be reckoned with.

-> [Dark areas] provinces not sending representatives to the Diet in Bandiagara

Zulu Empire - A relatively new power that arose onto the world stage only several hundred years ago. Shaka Zulu united the minor Zulu statelets, and led massive armies to the gates of Zimbabwe, where they were only defeated by the arrival of an Ethiopian relief force. Shaka Zulu returned south and centralized his conquests, forging a state that survives to the present day. The Zulu Kingdom is completely military-focused, with all youth serving a term in its massive, powerful military. The Zulus have declined to join the Bantu League and decry it as a refuge for cowards and pacifists.

-> United States of Bushmanland - The Zulus chose not to annex the Khoisan homelands, feeling it unsuitable for settlement and economic exploitation. Instead, a puppet federation was formed in the Kalahari for Khoisan speakers.

Kanem - The descendant of an empire that once dominated trans-Saharan trade, the ascent of air power and decline of traditional caravans has led to a decrease in Kanem's power. Nearly bankrupt, there are many in the country that would like to see the monarchy abolished and a technocratic government installed.

Ashanti Empire - A middling power in Africa. There are some within the Empire that resent the power of the Dogon to the north and scheme to form an alliance that will bring them to their knees.

Yorubaland - A heavily urbanized and culturally homogenous state ruled by the Yoruba people. The Yoruba are more or less content to be a middle power without any serious worries.

Neo-Nok Empire - When radical technocratic nationalist came to power in Gbagyia, the country was renamed for the ancient Nok civilization. The Empire has little contact with the outside world and satellite imagery indicates the country is on the verge of collapse.

Hausa States - A strip of Hausa-speaking polities at the southern edge of the Sahara. Though once Muslim and fiercely obsessed with the spread of their religion, the Hausa have since moderated and their states have become centers of Muslim thought recognized across the Solar System.

East Austronesian Autonomy - A stateless state founded after the pro-Ethiopian government of Madagascar was toppled by revolutionaries. Surviving astonishingly well through local cooperatives.

Is it a good assumption that nearly the entire world's technology level is futuristic? How advanced of AI do we have, and is this world post-scarcity?

I'd say we're not really at post-scarcity yeat. Probably a bit better than OTL first world conditions around the world. Narrow AI is most widespread with very, very few general AI that can match humans.

How much effort are we planning to put into the Wormhole Worlds? I've made a rough tectonic map of Aephlera just now, and made a similar one for Vesperia back in its original thread. We could use these as guides to make topographic maps and then river and climate maps, but that would be a bit more work than just painting some nations on.

I’m not quite sure. I originally wanted to use these wormhole worlds as a way for folks to experiment with ideas without drastically changing the setting. A layer of separation. In terms of the final worlda that will be produced, I though it will only have the basic map with civilizations on top.

I’m certainly not opposed to including topographic maps and such though I’m a bit wary of expanding the scope of the projects so much. It’s sort of a feature creep and considering how much we want to include, and we’d have to make a decision about should we be doing river systems and topography for all the alien worlds.

In short, I have no idea. We can discuss it further on discord.

I've joined the Discord as well.

I might just work on topography stuff for Aephlera anyway since it was its own project originally and then just design some civilizations for this project. Not really sure about what sort of civilizations Aephlera will have, I might think about it while everyone comes up with ideas for the other planets, just to see how everything might fit together.

Sample of some of the topography work currently being undertaken for Aephlera. Most of the activity is on Discord now so I think it is good to come back to this thread to post an update every now and again.

I'd seriously love to keep consistently contributing but my stress levels are through the roof right now and for the foreseeable future.
