The battle of Pavia: A battle between the two great superpowers, France and the holy roman empire and France over the vital territories in northern Italy. A battle that for the first time showed the superiority of arquabuses over cavalry charge and more then any other battle destroyed the age of knights and the rise of gunpowder. In the brutal battle on the 24th of febuary 1525, Francis the 1sts french army was wiped out and himself captured, ending his superiority and ensuring Hapsburg dominance over italy for the next 300 years.
But what things were different? What if it rained, snuffing out the gunpowder. Or Francis displayed more caution and didn't charge foolhardily? What is the result?
So here are two challenges: Give me a plausible way the french could have AND tell me what would have been the long lasting result.
Good luck!
