Emblems of the major parliamentary political parties in the Terran Imperial Parliament as of 2440 CE.
As the Terran Federation transitioned into being the Terran Empire in 2430, the political parties within it evolved and shifted. The main pillars of political orientation remained: technocracy vs democracy, centralization vs federalism, and the socioeconomic left-right spectrum; but these were combined with a fourth axis: monarchy vs republic. The creation of a Terran monarchy changed the orientation of some political parties, and saw some larger ones split over the issue.
The wartime coalition broke down after the ISTO-Soviet peace treaty in 2432, and new rivalries formed.
The
Progressive Labor Party is a center-left, technocratic social-democratic party, basically being a merger of the Terran Labor Party, the leftist wing of the Progress Party, and the national-unity wing of the Interstellar Socialist Party. It is broadly monarchist, adhering to the Imperial ideology of "social [democratic] monarchism", advocating for a strong welfare state, parliamentary democracy, and a centralized government based on efficiency.
The
Interstellar Socialist Party remains a leftist, democratic socialist party espousing mass democracy and class struggle, now smaller and more closely aligned with the Terran Communist Party. As a big-tent of those to the left of the Progressives but not as revolutionary as the Communists, they tend to support democracy at every level of Terran governance and are theoretically opposed to the monarchy.
The
Federal Conservative Party is a center-right party advocating conservative values mixed with social welfare and technocracy, with a divide between centralists and devolutionists. It is generally supportive of the Terran monarchy, having been the main party supporting its creation, and idealizes an aristocratic government based on merit and tradition.
The
Terran Liberal Party is a liberal-centrist democratic party, advocating a strong, central democracy, civil rights, free trade, and social welfare. In some ways, it has formed from the ashes of the old Progress Party. Terran Liberals generally see a centralized parliamentary democracy as the main political avenue for popular will, and the fair and regulated market as its economic avenue. Historians see their ideology as "
Rhine Capitalism In Space".
The
Terran Communist Party is an explicitly Mackenzist communist party, proposing itself as the militant vanguard of a proletarian revolution. It is bitterly opposed to the Terran monarchy and generally hostile to the bourgeois and neofeudal Terran state. It has a reputation for rhetorically supporting various armed revolutionary movements, though it has no provable ties to any.
The
Empire of Man Party is a far-right big tent of Terran nationalists, who support a strong central state, monarchism, and traditionalism. They go beyond the acquiescence to tradition seen among the Conservatives, and tend to support the Empire's shift to neo-feudalism. Its members are often militaristic and support protection of human settlements against alien influence.
The
National People's Party is a far-right, anthropocentric and populist party, advocating colonial devolution and a limited kind of democracy in the context of national syndicalism. They are seen by most others as bigots, considering their support of species-centric rhetoric, and opposition to synthetic rights and human augmentation, but they are very popular in agrarian colonies and among humanity-first activists and the "ecological right".
The
Colonial Republican Party remains a far-left anti-colonial party, advocating Maoist resistance and colonial secession, being the parliamentary wing of the Colonial Liberation Organization; the Colonial Republican Army is its militant wing. Its ideology is such that space colonies should be independent socialist republics, with a loose confederation between them.
There are, of course, many other minor parties that have no parliamentary representation, or caucus with an existing party, as well as innumerable regional or planetary political parties that may or may not affiliate with the major interstellar parties.
