Behold! The locomotive of tomorrow! (At least until the US government finally strong arms the major railroads into going electric... or nuclear war comes.)

Behold! The locomotive of tomorrow! (At least until the US government finally strong arms the major railroads into going electric... or nuclear war comes.)

This feels like it belongs in Thunderbirds.

An example of another alien species in my setting.

The freyans are a race of stout, roughly four-foot tall bipedal pseudo-cephalopods that evolved on a superterrestrial world with a pressure-cooker atmosphere with high fraction (5%) of free chlorine, and moderate ocean cover rich in mild hydrochloric acid. Mollusk-like shambling or crawling creatures became the dominant fauna, evolving into stalking predators in the extensive marshlands. Tightly coiled muscles and cartilage perform the structural work that bones do in most other species. The freyans in their modern form evolved around a quarter million years ago, and they developed agriculture around 11,000 years ago. The effects of acidification of the crust enabled early development of metallurgy and with it, advanced civilization. They developed industrialism at the same time Earth was undergoing the tumult of the High Middle Ages, invented nuclear technology in the 1450s, and went to space a few decades later. They cultivated a space empire in the Cygnus Arm, making contact with other spacefaring species. They formed a buffer state between colonial zones, playing off other empires to gain trade opportunities. The freyan government was a cooperative alliance between bureaucracy and business, garnering them a reputation as capitalists and slavers. The freyans engaged in massive, paranoid military build-up in response to other species' colonialism, which only increased when humanity appeared on the galactic political scene.
Due to their evolution on a high-pressure world, freyans have to wear varying levels of pressurized suits. In pressures lower than 30 atmospheres, their skin ruptures and they bleed out in as little as 30 seconds. In Earth-normal pressure,

The example below is without clothing (left), and with tactical gear and Level-1 pressure suit (right).

What do you use to make these alien species and how?

The emblem for the Special Administrative Extraterritorial Division of Dayī of the Republic of Indonesia (印尼共和大一特域外行政部), it entails a single head of cotton on a blue circle, surrounded by the official name of the territory in Chinese (simplified) with 'Dayī' in English at the bottom, reflecting the dual English-Chinese administration. It is reminiscent of the old emblem of Hong Kong, before the city was incorporated into the wider Province of Guangdong in 2047 and which is still used by the Hong Kong FTZ Authority.

The emblem appears on all official government documents and institutions and is incorporated into most ministerial logos, and further it serves as an insignia for the Dayī Air Service (including it's civilian (Dayī Air) and military (Dayī Air Force) branches). The cotton head is also a commonly prescribed biometric tattoo in the ministries that use such technology, serving as an embedded security and ID card for such bodies as the Division for Internal Regulation of the Ministry of Civic Affairs and Border Protection and the Ministry for Innovation, Research and Requisition. It is usually tattooed on the upper forearm, toward the elbow.

The viridians (Phytosapiens bryoderma) are a species of shambling plant-like aliens, somewhat resembling ambulatory mangroves with protruding, wide-mouthed heads, and four large tentacles. They evolved from benthic algae that, over millions of years, become highly cooperative, mobile marine flora much like schools of jellyfish on Earth; they survived by a combination of photosynthesis and predation. They came to dominate land life around a hundred million years ago, after a mass extinction event caused by increased volcanism. Archaic viridians arose from tool-using ancestors roughly a million years ago, developing complex settled societies around 100,000 years ago. Technological development was slow, largely due to the lack of necessity; attaining most of their energy from photosynthesis, viridians had little survival drive to develop complex tools usage except as means to defend their communities from predators or the elements. They achieved industrialism in the 17th century CE. Air and space development was a serious challenge due to their world's high gravity. Once they developed space technology in the 1910s, however, they began a crash colonization of nearby star systems. By the time of contact with the rest of the galaxy in the 2420s, they had cultivated a strong empire in the far side of the Cygnus arm, with exclaves and listening posts in the inner arm.

Viridians cannot enunciate speech, but instead communicate through pheromones, gesture, and body language, or through written script. Their system of writing is superficially similar to Braille, using indentations, along with color as added signifiers. Peculiarly, they lack the ability to visually process contours, and can only see color. Rather, they use a combination of keen hearing and minute electromagnetic sense to detect shapes and movement. As such, viridians are known for their lurid and garishly-colored clothing, particularly fine silk dresses and robes that their diplomats wear.
The Viridian Empire is a constitutional diarchy, ruled by two co-equal emperors, though the true power rests in a representative body elected by provincial assemblies, themselves chosen by town elders. Human commentators have nicknamed this the "Parliament of Trees", though the joke is not too far off the mark: the eldest viridians are over seven centuries old, and become rooted, sessile beings in the town centers once they reach that age, acting as sages, shamans, and legal advisers for the whole township. Viridian society is highly localized as the level of small communities, with the central imperial government being the main form of interlacing political organization.

At left is a fairly typical viridian, without clothing. However, "typical" is pretty loose here. Appearances are more variable than that of humans, not just in terms of coloration, but also placement of limbs and feeding protrusion.
At right is this viridian as diplomat, dress in a fine, deep blue silk robe.

Pretty crappily done, but it was my first shot at making a campaign poster for a TL I've been working on. Hoffa-Kennedy '72!

As Analytical Engine said on my timeline: "Communism can into space."

Connor Jerrid Mackenzie, born 11 June 2387 on the planet Kepler-1229b in the Nearer Perseus Expanse, to labor organizers Steven and Tomasin Mackenzie, who were also born on the planet in the early 2360s. Mackenzie followed in his parents'footsteps in becoming an activist for labor and socialist principles, floating from job to job as the local authorities on Kepler cracked down on leftist activism. The great prosperity that had been achieved by Earth's working class had not filtered out to the colonies yet, and many colonial governments took a harsh stance against protesters. Mackenzie was arrested several times for his activism in his early twenties, though usually with suspended sentences. In 2411, he was among several intellectuals and organizers who spearheaded a "red exodus" of several million communists, socialists, and other colonials into the Carina arm, settling a pocket of virgin, recently-discovered garden worlds. When the new settlements organized into a federation in late 2415, he was a neo-Leninist delegate to the General Workers Congress, the legislature of the new Interstellar Socialist Republic. But dissatisfaction with the proceedings of the new republic and its cooperation with the Terran and Orion states led Mackenzie to place himself in a self-imposed exile.
He embarked on what would become a fifteen-year mission to evangelize Marxism and socialist thought to the alien races of the Carina and Centaurus regions. He traveled with a small group of close confidantes, gaining new alien ones as he toured the tauran-led Covenant of Carina and the graal-led Worlds Commonality. He was initially looked upon with suspicion as a foreign agent or agitator by the graal and tauran authorities. Both species had developed rigid, authoritarian states. But, as Mackenzie saw them, they were halfway on the path to a Marxist-Leninist state: centralized authority, collectivism, mass or public ownership of the economy. They only lacked the class consciousness to realize these resources on behalf of the working people.
Mackenzie seeded a certain consciousness among tauran soldiers who would listen to his podcasts and live-talks; the short life span of taurans meant that, within a generation, the middle-leadership of the army held Leninist ideas on working-class solidarity and vanguardism, fused with military discipline. By the 2420s, the tauran military leadership had adopted some Leninist principles, reinventing themselves as the "vanguard party" of tauran society, rather than just the managerial state. While seemingly small, this change in self-image would very quickly become revolutionary. A "soft revolution" began to take hold.
The situation in the Worlds Commonality was considerably more tumultuous. He found himself banned from speaking tours on certain worlds, and often had to watch his words amidst the presence of graal military police at his rallies. After an incident where a riot sparked after he was barred from entering a city where he had booked a speaking engagement, he was forced to leave graal space. But the "damage" had been done; in 2429, a revolt by working-class middle officers across most graal worlds decapitated the army and navy, and a Leninist faction seized control by force.
Mackenzie returned to the ISR in 2429, lauded and famed for his "good works". He was chosen by the ISR as its new Secretary General, as the candidate most factions could agree on. However, he quickly sidelined libertarian-socialist and other opposition groups, and in the early 2430s orchestrated diplomatic proceedings with the Worlds Commonality and the Covenant of Carina to form an alliance or confederation. These talks quickly moved to discussions of federation, largely under the guidance of Mackenzie. In 2435, the three merged to form the Federative Republic of People's Solar Soviets, better known simply as the Soviet Republic. Each star system would be its own autonomous soviet republic, bound under a common federal government and Supreme Soviet. Mackenzie naturally became chairman of the union government, and again moved to sideline opposition; adherence to Mackenzist ideas, and sucking up to Mackenzie himself, became the best way to progress one's career.
Mackenzie was assassinated on 4 December 2449, at the age of 62. After he died, his clique fractured and the Soviet Republic began a new era of multi-factional democracy.

The picture below shows him around age 40 (left, c. 2427) and age 60 (right, c. 2447).

Bostonian F.C launch new home kit for the 2018/19 season.

SNIP

The current season may not be over just yet but the New England champions are already looking ahead to next season.

While the club retains it's classic maroon and yellow hoops, the new home shirt features a striking pattern to go along with it. Fans will also notice that there is no main sponsor on the shirts, this in part to New Balance striking a sponsorship deal with their fellow New Englanders for 5 years.

The Bostonian's will wear their new home shirts at the last home game against the New Bedford Whalers

Damn! I might have to have you do some graphic works for me and the CLNE.
