Grand Muti Al Husayni Becomes Caliph

Al Husayni is able to rally support and gets himself made Caliph. What are the immediate and long term results of this? Palestinian Revolt? World War II? Israel? Decolonization? Modern Day?
The Congress was called at the behest of Mohammad Amin al-Husayni, the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem, and Maulana Shaukat Ali, leader of the Indian Caliphate Committee. Ostensibly the Congress was called to consider a proposal to establish a University at the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem as a centre of Islamic scholarship, an idea which the leaders of the prestigious Al-Azhar University in Cairo opposed.

However, the Congress was viewed widely as an attempt by the mufti to enhance his prestige in advance of a bid for the office of caliph. This position had remained vacant since a Pan-Islamic Congress in Mecca in 1926 had failed to agree on a suitable candidate to replace King Hussein of Hejaz. A rival clan of the Husaynis, the Nashashibis, helped to ensure that the mufti was unsuccessful in his bid for the caliphate.

It's funny as I was actually thinking of the opposite of this a while back with idea of what if he had never become Grand Mufti. :)

It's going to be tough as he wasn't even in the top three for the position of Grand Mufti in terms of votes, it took the British High Commissioner of the time convincing Hussam ad-Din Jarallah who was the candidate that had received the most votes to withdraw thus bumping Husseini up to third place allowing him to be chosen for political reasons. Yeah, that worked out well. As you mention he's also going to have opposition from the Nashashibis as part of their ongoing feud/low-level cold war. My immediate answer to the question of what will be the results of this is nothing good, will have a think on a more substantial reply later.
