Grand Duchy of Posen separate from Prussia within the German Empire

How realistic is the idea of granting Posen autonomy within the German Empire as its own federal state?

Not much given the growing intensity of German nationalism and the authoritarian character of the Prussian state. Prussia did grant Posen a degree of autonomy in 1848 but that didn't last very long.

That's what I was thinking as well. Shame.

Are there any POD's that might result in such a choice? Maybe if Fredrick II lives longer or the 1848 autonomy lasts.

Was he on record about this matter?

Istr reading somewhere that it was an old Hohenzollern custom (dating back to when they held East Prussia as vassals of the Polish Crown) for their princes to learn Polish - but that Frederick III discontinued it as he considered Polish as a peasant patois not worth taking up lesson time on. 19C liberals were not "multicultural" in outlook.
