Governor Ed Thompson

The 2002 Wisconsin Gubernatorial Election was known for being particularly nasty.

The Republican and Democratic candidates weren't very well liked by the end due to all the mudslinging. Meanwhile the Libertarians nominated Ed Thompson, a mayor of a city of 10,000 people who happened to be the younger brother of the former Governor Tommy Thompson.

What if Ed Thompson had made it into the Gubernatorial Debates, performed well, and managed to win the Gubernatorial?

To me, the libertarians very adroitly work one side of the street. They're very perceptive about overbearing governmental power, and then turn a blind eye to overbearing corporate power.

I would be interested in a timeline in which it cuts across or is not exactly to type.
