Gotta Catch em' all faster! (if SEGA owned Pokémon)

Yeah. What if SEGA owned Pokémon instead of Nintendo?
In 1990:
Game Freak tries to Pitch Their Capsule Monsters idea to Nintendo but they don't understand the idea.
thus leaves Game Freak Frustrated.

In 1991:
Game Freak also tried to pitch their Capsule Monsters idea to SEGA, tom kalinske accepted the offer but reminds them that Capsule Monsters is a Trademarked idea so Game Freak had to change it to Pocket Monsters later abbreviated to "Pokémon", SEGA also reminds Game Freak that Pokémon will be only released for SEGA Handhelds (Such as SEGA Game Gear) due to Genesis lacking the Trading idea.

In 1992:
Pocket Monsters Red and Green was first released on Japan for SEGA Game Gear on 1992 while American fans has to wait until 1993.

In 1993:
Pokémon Red and Blue was first released in United States for SEGA Game Gear while Sonic CD was first Released on SEGA CD.
In 1994:
Pokémon gold and silver was still teased for SEGA Nomad but in a different way.

(Sorry if I couldn't do some rest of them )

This is a great idea! My quick stab at how Pokémon helps the Saturn… since I know basically nothing about Pokémon itself lol.

Pokémon powers Sega through the bad days of the Saturn with memory cards designed to trade Pokémon (perhaps connecting with say Game Gear II as well?). Rivalry against Pokémon suddenly seizing resources because of its popularity unites SoJ/SoA development long enough for Sega Technical Institute to get their hands officially on the NiGHTS engine this meaning Sonic has a Saturn entry.

The Sonic/Pokémon duo give the Saturn several millions of desperately needed sales and Sega manages to roll out their OTL last round of killer line-up (Burning Rangers, Shining Force III, Panzer Dragoon Saga) with a serious advertising push and some great sales.

Perhaps most importantly it lets them delay the Dreamcast launch in Japan to 1999. This lets PowerVR launch their GPU for computers (tile-based rendering goes big time!) as well as stockpiling (slightly faster ITTL) chips for Sega. ATL Dreamcast is a little faster and has more memory (as RAM prices continue to fall) and much better piracy protection.

SEGA probably won't run it as well. Sonic is hated by its own fans for a reason.

I think that's a given, but I think the concept itself might have enough power and addictiveness (if that's even a word?) to make Sega survive the 6th generation if they play their cards right.
