Prior to Adrianople, the emperor Valens had ended the pre-existing treaties with the Goths after a round of wars. The prior terms gave the Goths preferential trading rights with Rome and required the Goths to send troops. Both sides were hurt by the end of this treaty, resulting in a weakened Gothic economy and a weakened Roman military.
If we assume this treaty were maintained largely intact, might the Goths manage to stay in Dacia? They'll still feel the pressure from the Huns, of course, but perhaps a more solid society there might be able to stay put.
