Gore in 2004

Inspired by the Kerry 2008 thread, what do you think might have happened if Al Gore had gone for a rematch with President GWB in 2004? After all, as we all remember, there was a movement to get him to run. IIRC, there were even clever bumper stickers that said, "Re-elect Gore in 2004.":p

There is a timeline about exactly such a scenario, though there is a chance that it has been abandoned.

I think Gore is easily nominated. He does not select Lieberman again. Instead his choice is probably Evan Bayh. Gore/Bayh probably does better against Bush than Kerry did. I'd call the election a tossup.

Bayh helps Gore carry his home state plus the rest of the rust belt for good measure. Gore also allowes Clinton to campaign with him in Arkansas this time and he is able to win that way. On the whole Gore runs the type of campaign that he would have liked to in 2000 if his focus group obsessed advisors hadn't held him back.
