Gonzalo Pizarro declares himself King of Peru

After revolting against the New Laws, and killing the Viceroy sent by Spain. Gonzalo Pizarro had really good incentive to declare Peru independent. So what if he did? It seems like he had quite a bit of artillery and he could have made some kind of deal with the Incas. I am sure this has come up before, but I wonder what kind of changes this would mean for the rest of the Spanish colonies? Like New Spain or Central America.

Well he wasn't the first conquistador to probably contemplate the idea (I can tell you of the conspiracy regarding the two sons of Cortes and a bunch of conquistadors plotting to take Mexico for themselves) but he's likely going to end up failing miserably with him and anyone who was dumb enough to stick with him being executed by the incoming Spanish viceroy. I doubt that the remaining Inca would accept any sort of deal that Pizarro makes and use the opportunity of the present Spanish forces fighting amongst themselves to kick them out once and for all but Gonzalo would try anyways, being the desperate man that he is.

It's certainly something worth reading about, regardless if it fails or not. And we don't get good South American AH here.

Yeah I was thinking it was one way to preserve the Incan empire. In fact the faction among the conquistadors that wanted to declare independence thought that Gonzalo could declare himself King of the armies of Peru and ruler of the Spanish towns while inviting the Manco Inca to rule the indians. I wonder though if Peru is on it's own for a while, could it be enough time for the Inca to turn the tables on the Spanish.

Well that situation won't last very long, will it? ;) It would be the perfect chance for the Inca to rid itself of the Spanish conquistadors, and if lucky, work out some sort of arrangement with Spain or another rival colonial power (the more preferable option) to keep it more or less independent.
