Gone To Texas

Following Washington's defeat in New York (and the failure of the Staten Island Peace Conference), the Founding Fathers decide that the patriot cause is lost and decide to follow a suggestion by Aaron Burr to follow Washington into the West, and therefore down into Texas, where they are quietly welcomed by Spanish emissaries.

There they would remain, while sparodic uprisings continued in the Northeast while the Southern colonies secretly supported them while officially proclaiming their loyalty to the Crown.

Washington helps to inspire a revolt in Mexico, where a provisional Continental Congress is established. While the Spanish are naturally uneasy about this, they are privately happy to have a possible bulwark against British expansion into the Southwest.

Following Washington's death, this provisional government elects Thomas Jefferson as its President. Since the original Revolution, copies of his Constitution have been circulating illegally in the East, and by 1810 another uprising seems inevitable. By now, the British are too involved in the Napoleonic Wars to be able to send large numbers of troops to the colonies; with support from Napoleonic France the "Second American Revolution" begins and succeeds in overthrowing the British in New York and "Georgetown" on the Potamac. The war ends in 1815 with the Treaty of Ghent.

This is just a rough outline of a later American Revolution. Comments and thoughts are welcome!

I like the concept. I would love the to know the date for the POD...

As for Burr, his highest rank was colonel and he was greatly disliked by Washington. So I doubt Washington would take his advice. That doesn't mean the Spanish don't make the offer independently.

Jefferson never wrote anything approaching a constitution AFAIK so having him write one would be a bit unlikely. While he was a lawyer, he lacked the legal background to do it, as he didn't practice for more than a few years. There is a reason Adams wrote the one for Massachusetts.

BTW what happens to the folks in France such as Franklin, Adams, Jefferson etc?

An interesting scenario WVR. However, you've got many holes to fill, dots to connect and how/why questions to answer in order to build a plausable story. Good luck.

If they went down to Texas there's little chance you see a rebellion in Mexico. Rather, what'd I'd expect, is that the Spanish government aids them as Spain had every reason to want to see a revolution in the 13 colonies. So basically Spain backs revolutionary efforts, as does France, and in exchange Spain gets Florida back, or something of the like for their efforts.
