Goering's Navy

what if the chairs were shuffled and Hermann Goering was leader of Nazi regime, what would the Kriegsmarine look like?

he was considered the main obstacle to cooperation between LW & KM but would it automatically mean carrier-centric navy? or THAT concept scrapped much earlier?

my view Goering might favor commercial ships converted to wartime duties, that type of strategy certainly was favored by LW. Germany had mastered ocean liner construction, so there might be another pair after Europa and Bremen instead of pair of carriers begun historically.

If Germany got aircraft carriers, I suspect they'd be under Luftwaffe control.

After all, OTL Luftwaffe had a Panzer Corps because Göring wanted it to have one.

that was , historically, carving out more of fiefdom for himself? here he would be ultimate authority, although very possible he would build counterweight to the army.

the LW controlled the AA flak units and the KM the shore batteries, maybe there would be closer cooperation and streamlining of those?

Well, one needs to remember that there was alot of distrust of the traditional naval leadership by the Nazi establishment. The Kreigsmarine contained what was generally perceived as the most traditionalist officer corps and thus ideologically suspect, while the LW was a much more Nazified institution. Goring is probably going to be even less scrupulous than Hitler was in trying to undermine its power, and may even transfer coastal defense authority to the Heer.

I’ve seen Hitlers Germany described as a Prussian Army with an Imperial Navy and a Nazi Airforce. Raeder was against carriers - called them Avgas tankers.

since the battleship navy requires the traditionalist officer corps (to use your accurate description) more than carriers or u-boat corps? they do not build the largest historical warships?

...
MUCH would IMHO depend on when and maybe also how he becomes theBeing the top shark in the pond.

Hopwever, as the OverAllBigBoss of everybody and everything I wonder if he would actually care as mmuch for "details" - like which service "rules" also the maritime airplanes - as he did IOTL as only being part of the of dogs fighting for the bones from Hitler table.

Being the top dog by himself I could well see him leaving the "details" to the maybe by him appointed "specialists" of the armed forces, ... all armed forces of every branch (navy, LW and Heer) as I could also well envisage him playing the divide-et-impera game within the top ranks of the military forces as well as between the different services ... maybe with a kind of "leaning" towards the LW.

Leaving underlings to fix the details is his style- and expand his kingdom. Thus a more collaborative approach is possible. Question is which underlings he picks and to what extent an air force preference carries through. Calling carriers Avgas tankers may not be Raeders Best career move.

Goering was focused during rise of Nazi regime, never have understood to what degree his abdication of leadership later was addiction vs. disagreement with some of the wartime strategy? (as he was much against invasion of USSR, at least WHEN it was done)

my initial conception would be he would lavish resources on the LW instead of setting up SS empire as was done IOTL? can also imagine that the surplus naval guns (from WWI) and newly manufactured large guns, as well the expensive Krupp cemented armor would be tempting target for Goering (and the Heer?) and seem to be waste installed on ships at anchor?

since they were operating seaplane tenders out into Atlantic during 1930's (and seized them form KM during wartime) that plausibly something expanded upon? (similar to French Commandant Teste) and/or mirror the Swedish Gotland seaplane cruiser.

there was also issue of fuel the entire war, it was kind of counterintuitive for Hitler to back construction of large Plan Z fleet? so almost any other leader of Germany, including Goering, would not be likely to do so?

possibly a coal powered coastal force and larger ships forced to use diesel of their hybrid diesel/fuel oil set up.
