I think we have had a few discussions on Goering becoming the chancellor after a Hitler demise.
Timing is of course a bit crucial in all of this.
Let us just recap a little bit: Goering in 1938 was not yet a druggie. Wiki says: "He finished WWI with 22 victories. A thorough post-war examination of Allied loss records showed that only two of his awarded victories were doubtful. Three were possible and 17 were certain, or highly likely."
His IQ was apparently 138.
So Goering before becoming Goering was surely a calculating beast.
If we look at 1938 in isolation, the question to ask before we get to the meaty part is: How anti-Semitic was Goering? how much of a war-proponent?
If it is correct that he was just going with the flow at that time, we could see something interesting.
Let us now assume that Hitler dies of natural causes - choking on an apfhel-strudel or something in 1938. Should it be after Munich? It could even be shortly after the German invasion of the rest of Czech republic in March 1939.
Let us also assume that Goering does outsmart Himmler and Hess and Heydrich for that matter.
Would Goering risk a war with France? Would we see an alignment with Britain/France and a war on Russia?
