Global Population without Decolonization?

If decolonization can be prevented til the year 2000, how many people would there be on Earth?

Does this affects the growth or we would still see a 7 billion in 2012?

Thanks in advance!

So I'm guessing this would require a pre-WW1 POD and even then, you can only delay decolonization, not prevent it.

Let's say OTL decolonization started 1947 -- not counting Ireland or the Statue of Westminister (eg South Africa 1931-61), this works. Then the OP requires a delay of about 50 years, with no stated limits on the PoD.

More dead people.

Waaaaaay more dead people.

Yes, yes, I see dead people

I said prevent decolonization until the year 2000, but maybe that's impossible?

Any PODs are acceptable, as long as it's post-1900.

So how many people are there?

I don't see why it would result in more dead people? Wars in ex colonies have a horrific toll - just look at whatever the Congo feels like calling itself today!

Too many people see "no decolonisation" and think it means by definition keeping the native population down with a gun, and hence massacres.

But the AIM of most of the colonies were to develop towards self government. Thus 'no decolonisation' per se is not going to prevent eventual self government within the colonial structure, and a gradual loosening of the imperial strings, as what happened with Australia and Canada for instance.

Quite a few post-colonial states are federations - Uganda, Malaysia etc. Local rule is already built into the structure.

Patterns of settlement might be more worth asking about as the first part of this question - obviously if East Africa remains British, more Britons are going to migrate there. There also won't be any kicking out of the Asians.

That or more people move to Britain in between the civil war between Hutu and Tutsi. Might end up like Suriname, with a large part of the population who could afford to moving to the colonizing country.
