Global One Child Policy

In 1981 the United States follows China's lead and implements a strict one child policy, the United States also implements trade policy encouraging all other nations to adopt one child policies as well. At first there is fierce opposition but eventually people accept it.

Now it is 30 years later in the year 2011 and the first children of the one child policy are becoming parents of their own, if they haven't already.

What would the world look like?

ASB.

Aside from the fact the United States at the time would never follow China's lead on anything, as a whole it would be highly unconstitutional on multiple levels.

On a more global scale it also runs counter to Western values of Freedom.

Viva La Revolution!

I doubt people would sit back and allow such stupid policies, especially in countries where they need to have more than one child.

So it is pretty much ASB.

The United States finds itself extremely isolated, unable it implement any free trade agreements and excluded from various trade blocks.

Please move this to ASB. One Child Policy itself is completely ridiculous and nonsense:mad::mad::mad:

It's only possible if you could butterfly away all democratic nations in the world. A truly democratic nation would never, never impose such inhumane birth control.

Screw the One Child Policy:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

The US currently ranks as like 179th in the world by population density, way below China (although China's only 80th), and in fact below the world average.

ASB. For one thing, many Catholics and Evangelicals wouldn't stand for it - and these are important demographics. The only way it could happen in the United States is if some General Ripper-type launched a violent coup, launching a left-wing totalitarian state.

The problem with the one child policy is that it disrupts the ratio of retirees to working taxpayers. Right now in the United States, we are having a difficult time dealing with retiring Baby Boomers and the problem isn't going to get any better. This problem would only be escalated when they stop having 2.3 kids and start having less than half that.

The main solution is to make care for the elderly efficient and cheap. This means that for the majority of people their golden years will be group homes operated by poorly paid people or reasonably paid people with a workload way too high.

No but its the most likely regime to support such policies (a Nazi style regime might also but only against "inferior" peoples).

That's complete and utter bullshit.

Any regime that decides it's a problem will do it, regardless of supposed ideological orientation.

Isn't America underpopulated!!

I'd say the only way for a this to occur would be in some kind of "Children of Men" scenario, where some unknown biology causes women to only be capable of bearing one child (instead of zero like the movie).

Before you two compound the profound stupidity of this thread by making dicks of yourselves with a lot of abuse how about citing a few historical examples as a basis for and against your arguments.

Alternatively you could let the whole thing drop on the grounds that it’s just such an utterly ridiculous idea to begin with.
