As France was falling, there was a crisis in the British War Cabinet, where Churchill was constantly confronted by Halifax on his refusal to consider peace, risking to be ousted.

On May 26 Churchill was forced to concede he would be willing to make peace with Germany provided some conditions:

"I would be grateful to get out of our present difficulties on such terms, provided we retained the essentials and the elements of our vital strength, even at the cost of some territory". He said that "if we could get out of this jam by giving up Malta and Gibraltar and some African colonies he would jump at it. But the only safe way was to convince Hitler that he couldn't beat us"

Let's suppose that just as Churchil conceded to this, Germany (I open up the possibility for him dying or anything else if it is ASB for him to do so) does exactly that, in fact even better. And a bold, public and formal peace offer is made to the UK where the only thing asked is a white peace with no further loses for the UK at all.

Would Churchil be forced to accept peace or would he find a way to avoid it?
