Germans use of gas during Zitadelle

The germans knowing about the vast fortification sistem, decide to use chemical weapons. How efective is a chemical attack against the fortied soviet troops ? How well equiped are the soviets to fight a chemical war at that point ? Will the western allies gas the german cities? I don't think they will, for fear of retaliation.

It gets said a lot here that it would have to be not Hitler to do that.

It remains the case here as if he didn't to save the 6th Army or use it in late 1944 to 1945 when he had nothing left to lose and was headed for death anyway and knew it he wasn't going to use it for a politically motivated offensive mainly meant mainly to sure up his allies that were thinking about bolting.

IIRC, Churchill personally assured Stalin that retaliation would occur.

In summer 1943 Bomber Command is a far more potent strategic bombing force than the Luftwaffe, despite the geographical disadvantage, so this is not a game that Germany wants to play.
