German Whaling early 1930s

Could the Germans have become more heavily involved in whaling in the 1930s and if they had what would have been the consequences .

Would the whaling fleets have been the equivalent of the gliding schools and given Germany chance to train more sailors ?

Could they have stockpiled whale meat and oil to help when shortages came in war or would their not have been enough to be significant .

Could the whaling ships have been converted into something useful for example whale catchers as escorts . I suspect yes given flower class . Factory ships as tankers or other auxiliaries .

According to the german wiki about Whaling and its history
1938 bis 1939 fingen insgesamt sieben Fabrikschiffe mit 56 Fangbooten für Deutschland, das so zur drittgrößten Walfangnation aufstieg.
"1938 to 1939 all together seven factoty ships with 56 whaling boats sailed for germany, so becomming the 3rd largest whaling-nation."

These development began 1935 with the "Jan Wellem", a converted cargo liner, followed by the new constructions of for decades most modern factory ships Walter Rau and Unitas in 1937, all out for their first season 1937/38.
