German offer of peace after Poland accepted?

After the invasion of Poland was complete, Hitler offered Britain and France a peace deal, what would have been the effect of one or both countries accepting?

So let me see.
They go to war because Hitler invades Poland, so once hes finished they... take a peace deal!!??
Exactly how is this supposed to work!?

Yep, to the east of Poland.
However, I don't think go it's going to work - they've declared war because of Poland. And the British know the Germans would, at least, have a very hard time trying to invade them and don't want a powerful Germany (or any other power) occupying most of Europe.
I dunno, maybe if the Germans use large quantities of gas against the Polish cities and that scares everybody.

IIRC the allies were willing to discuss a peace which included the 1914 frontier for Germany, but didn't want to do so with Hitler still in power.
I'm not too sure on, that though.

Poland was proverbial line in sand. After Germany took over entire Czechoslovakia even Chamberlain realized Hitler can't be trusted. Backing down after Poland was occupied would be disaster.

UK and France were formally willing to talk peace if germany retreated to 1939 borders. However with SU tking their part of Poland this point kind of becomes moot.

Great Britain and France decide that, after Munich, accepting this settlement would pretty much assassinate any credibility either ever had as an ally with any nation in Europe and continue the war.

Probably better in the long term. Britain and France continue re-arming to the point where they can overtake Germany, most historians place this time around 1941. After this point it's just a matter of time until German defeat maybe even sooner if Hitler still goes ahead with Operation Barbarossa.

The speed of the German conquest makes them realise they need more time??

Ahh Edit, The Red has the same thought.....but as Grim Reaper says, any credibility is gone and I suspect it would start to make Britain and France start to mistrust each other.

Germany is also building you know

Oh and without the shock of 1940, the actual war will still be a diseaster

Germany was building up but hit a wall. Not enough resources, having to import steel, which combined with low level of exports ment massive trade imballance and depletion of currency reserves. German industrial output was at maximum and couldn't go on in such extent anymore. Any further expansion was simply spoils, be it Austria (gold, workforce) or CS (factories). Britain and France were just getting started and in addition to their domstic resources (including colonies) had access to US production. Both had either the money to buy stuff or good credit rating to borrow.

By 1939 they were catching up. In addition having to start rearming sooner Germany was stuck with mid-1930s weapons which were becoming obsolete or not up to the task. Which makes Hitler's decission to go to war in 1939 morelogical.

What my honourable friend said. Time is on our side and was running out for Hitler and his chums.
