German "Mafia" in the US

I seriously doubt that Germans had no history of organised crime like Italy, Japan and China.

AFAIK we actually didn´t, at least not on the level of the above mentioned nations. We also did not have was a prohibition, thus organized crime was limited to "small potatoes" like prostitution, theft, robbery.

And IMO a massive influx of impoverished and radical Germans is difficult. If WW1 ends with an early compromise peace and no big economic trouble in europe, there will be no german mass exodus to the USA. But if there is a late peace and big economic trouble in europe, the USA will be affected. They loose markets and loans. Under these circumstances limits on immigration would be very likely.

For the weapons, I think a lot of former German soldiers might get them from "back home"; there'll be no shortage of them there, with riots, civil wars, and what else. Of course they'd have to get them to America, but that's where some nice Irish dockworkers or the like might come in handy.
It might be somewhat round-about, but it would mean that the Ringverein's muscle would have weapons they're very familiar with.

Plus, there's a chance they could get some stuff even a bribed Army quartermaster might take offense to "losing"; MGs, for example...

Going by the German Army's enthusiasm for machine guns, they clearly understood the occasional need for More Dakka :D

Which, admittedly, makes the bits about precision firing somewhat strange, so... precision dakka, perhaps?

In any case, what might a new Ringverein in the US be named? Any suggestions?

Hmmm...

Some OTL examples first (yes, I did copy them from the German wikipedia page, but if memory serves me right, they are authentic):

Immertreu e.V. [Always Faithful]
Libelle e.V. [Dragonfly]
Apachenblut e.V. [Apaches' Blood ... thanks a lot, Karl May :D)
Reichsverein ehemaliger Strafgefangener [Imperial Club of former Prison Inmates]
Berliner Ring
Der Freie Bund [Free Federation]
Norddeutscher Ring
Mitteldeutschen Ring
Ring Großdeutschland
Freie Vereinigung [Free Association]

the "e.V." means, literally, eingetragener Verein or "registered Club" which means that the Club was officially registered by the state :D

So, some suggestions:

- Deutscher Heimatverein
- Auswandererförderverein [Emigrants' Support Club] ;)

I like the "e.V." thing. This has something of the official thief guild from the discworld. ;)

I like the naming suggestions, especially since they're so nicely official. One can easily imagine them with official purposes and agendas where the public (and the police, of course) is concerned.

How about a club with connections to politics? How could we name it?

...

Yes, Wassertor e.V.? *whistel*

That would be a bit much, perhaps.

But, maybe, a young German immigrant arrived in New York with little but the clothes on his back to escape his country's civil strife, or invading russians, or whatever... and receives help from a certain group that was specifically founded to provide newly arrived German immigrants with some starting help. And, maybe, this young German immigrant then goes forth and, using the help provided, makes career where he is ever more successful, until he finds himself in a sufficiently high position - Mayor of New York, perhaps? - and, one morning, is visited by a nice fellow who shares similar German origins and represents a certain group, a Verein, really that was set up to help German immigrants... :D
