German Guiana?

Just had a random thought. In World War I, Germany's overseas empire was dismantled and divided between the victorious powers, who administered the territories as League of Nations mandates. Let's say, however, that France ended up losing the Great War instead. Could Germany plausibly demand French Guiana, New Caledonia, Algeria or any of France's other overseas territories as part of their peace settlement instead?

Probably one of France's less important African colonies like what became Benin or one of the Central African territories.

The rest of them are simply way to important to France to give up, also America would likely take issue with any of the French Territories in the Western Hemisphere becoming German.

I know they were looking for something in the South Pacific that was a little more substantial than what they had. They had to find some way to link their coaling stations from sub-Saharan Africa, Tsingtao, and back to Germany again. This left a big South Pacific hole with only a few islands to bridge the gap and they wanted options.

Indeed, the Monroe Doctrine specifically states that the transfer of one European territory in the Western Hemisphere to another European power would be considered a threat to America's vital interests.

As the posters above said, they probably would want more territory in the Pacific. But I don't think they'd demand French (or British) territories in the Caribbean or the Guyanas.

This is for two reasons. One, they have no real strategic interest in having colonies there. Two, this would run afoul the Monroe Doctrine. I'm pretty sure the U.S. in this scenario stayed out of the war, and would have something to say about new German colonies.

My guess is the Germans would force France to sell French Guiana to Brazil at whatever low price Brazil could afford. Martinique and Guadeloupe would probably be sold to the U.S. at a fair price.

I don't think Germany would be in the position to make any demands on the U.K. in the New World, but if they were, they'd probably just require the Falklands be handed over to Argentina. Would help cement relations between Argentina and Germany, and it wouldn't piss the U.S. off unnecessarily.

(Waiting to pounce on any NOOB who suggests that the the British might be forced to hand over Australia...)

New Caledonia and French Polynesia would probably become German. Same as the predecessor to the French Southern and Atlantic Lands, Reunion and Mayotte in the Indian Ocean.

If Germany wants a chain of Coaling stations around the world Ile Saint-Paul and Kergulen are good spots to take.

The US might allow Clipperton Island to go to Germany (most likely Mexico or the US) . They might also Allow St. Pierre and Miquelon to go to Germany, or to the US for cash.

I'm not Going to bother thinking About the UK.
